Programs we manage

Centacare Evolve Housing owns or manages about 2,000 properties state-wide in Tasmania. We have several different programs, but all of them provide homes for people in need of secure and affordable housing.

Social Housing

Social housing provides housing for people on low incomes. The majority of properties are owned by us with others managed on behalf of Housing Tasmania under their Better Housing Futures initiative.

Rent for social housing properties is set at 25% of household income plus Commonwealth Rent Assistance, or the independently assessed market rent value, whichever is lower. Click here for more information about how we set rent for social housing.

Applications for all social housing in Tasmania are managed through Housing Connect. When we have an available property we allocate it from the Housing Connect waiting list.

Affordable Housing

Affordable housing offers a housing alternative for low-to-moderate income households who cannot afford private market rents.

Rent for these properties is set at a percentage of market rent value, normally at or below 80%, as assessed by independent market valuation. Click here for more information about how we set rent for affordable housing.

Rapid Rehousing

Rapid Rehousing is a Tasmanian Government initiative that provides housing assistance to people affected by family violence, people exiting Mental Health Services inpatient units and prisoners exiting Tasmanian Prison Services. Rapid Rehousing assists vulnerable people to access secure and affordable housing while they transition to independent living with the assistance of a housing support case manager. Tenants in Rapid Rehousing accommodation have leases of up to 12 months.

Centacare Evolve Housing manages Rapid Rehousing properties in partnership with the Tasmanian Government and Housing Connect.

Program Factsheet

Transitional Housing

Centacare Evolve Housing manages some transitional housing on behalf of Housing Tasmania. These properties are made available to people experiencing acute homelessness or domestic violence who need short term transitional accommodation. Tenants are allocated a Housing Connect support worker who will assist them manage some of their immediate needs, and work towards longer term housing options.

Transitional housing is allocated to people through Housing Connect.

Private Rental Incentives

Centacare Evolve Housing manages properties across the state as part of the Private Rental Incentives program. This program is funded under Tasmania’s Affordable Housing Action Plan and administered by Housing Tasmania to help low income Tasmanians access the private rental market.

As well as providing homes for people who need secure and affordable housing, the program offers benefits to the landlords we work with - including:

  • The opportunity to support people in need of a home.
  • A two year fixed term head lease with Centacare Evolve Housing - a nationally accredited Tier 1 Community Housing Provider.
  • Rents capped at between 25 to 30 per cent below median rental rates with incentive payments of between $6,000 and $9,000 per annum.
  • Fee free property management.
  • Peace of mind regarding rent payments, maintenance liability and property inspections.
