Clennett’s recently gave locals Jason and Reece from Build Up Tassie, a taste of landscaping work on a four-day placement at a newly completed Centacare Evolve Housing building site in Gagebrook.

“This was a great opportunity for Jason and Reece to learn new skills, build relationships and be involved in the transition from building site to a completed property, ready for handover,” said Build Up Tassie coach, Adrian, “It’s all part of the way we support young people to become life ready, skill ready and work ready.”

Centacare Evolve Housing’s Build Up Tassie work readiness program provides young locals with training and work pathways into construction through a nine-week orientation that builds work readiness with one-to-one coaching and hands-on skill development, including on-the-ground participation in community projects. Those who take part in Build Up Tassie learn about having a growth mindset that will help them in their future lives and work.

Build Up Tassie crew members have access to support for their equipment and short courses or attainment of licenses needed so that the crew have what is necessary to participate in work exposure opportunities in up to six trade environments. In this way they are supported to find pathways into training and employment in the construction industry.

“Clennetts understands the value of opportunities like this for young people in developing their own skillset and awareness of how things come together on site and are pleased to be able to play a part,” said Clennett’s Landscaping project supervisor, Brad.

The Build Up Tassie Program has evolved to include an option for crew to join our new structured eight-week workplace exposure program at the completion of the initial orientation program. Participants will experience up to six different trade environments over eight weeks giving them an opportunity to showcase their new skills and abilities on the job, to potential employers.

Build Up Tassie is now recruiting for our next crew and places are filling fast.
