Centacare Evolve Housing offers a broad range of housing programs and services as described below.

Social Housing

Social Housing is provided to people on low incomes or government benefits where rent is calculated as a percentage of household income.

Social Housing includes housing that is provided by the State government (public housing) and Community Housing Providers such as Centacare Evolve Housing (community housing).

Allocation of all social housing is from a central Housing Register, which is managed by Housing Connect. Allocations are made in accordance with the State Government’s Social Housing Policy and properties cannot be offered to people who apply directly to us.

Affordable Housing

Affordable Housing is for people on low to moderate incomes where rent is calculated as a percentage of market rental value – although rent is often capped using an affordability measure to avoid rental stress.

Unlike Social Housing, we maintain our own list of people who are looking for Affordable Housing. This means people can apply directly to us and they do not have to be on the Housing Register.

It is important to understand that we have limited Affordable Housing properties. This means we do not have regular vacancies and wait times can be very long – often several years.

Rapid Rehousing – Family Violence

Centacare Evolve Housing is the only state-wide provider of this Tasmanian Government funded program. The program provides up to 12 months of transitional housing to individuals or families impacted by family violence.

Properties are rented through the private market and sub-let to eligible tenants in accordance with the Social Housing Policy.

Rapid Rehousing – Beyond the Wire

This is a partnership program between Centacare Evolve Housing, Homes Tasmania, and The Salvation Army. It is exclusively managed by Centacare Evolve Housing state-wide.

The program is available to people exiting the prison system. Properties are rented through the private market and sub-let to eligible tenants in accordance with the Social Housing Policy. Tenants are encouraged to engage with The Salvation Army’s Beyond the Wire service for the duration of the tenancy to support with the transition back into the community.

Crisis/Transitional Housing

This is a state-wide program run in partnership with CatholicCare Tasmania to support people in need of urgent housing support.

Short term, transitional tenancies are linked to key support services designed to find pathways into long term sustainable housing.

Private Rental Incentives Program

Centacare Evolve Housing is the only state-wide provider of this Tasmanian Government funded program. The program encourages private owners to make their property available to applicants on Tasmania’s Housing Register.

Private owners who participate receive an annual incentive payment to offset below market rental income as rents are capped at 25 – 30% below median rent.

Referrals are managed through Housing Connect and allocated by Centacare Evolve Housing from the Housing Register.
