Our first traditional Christmas Parade was held on Saturday 10th December 2016 and was a true community event involving people from all sections of our community.
The event was organised by Brighton Alive participants alongside members from the community, through funding provided by the Brighton Community Grants Program. In total 20 floats participated on the day with around 250 people participating on the floats. Council staff and SES volunteers helped with road closures, community members took on the judging of floats, while hundreds watched from vantage points along the route. Crowd favourite was the Mangalore Kennels float which won Best Overall Float from our community judges. The Best School Float sponsored by Rebecca White MP was awarded to St. Paul’s Catholic School with Gagebrook Primary awarded Highly Commended. The Best Community Float sponsored by Hon. Rene Hidding MP was the HIPPY Program.
The organisers would like to thank all float participants for the wonderful effort they put into their float, it truly made the parade colourful and brought the spirit of Christmas to our community. A special thank you to the Pete’s Community Shed group who undertook major work on Santa’s Sleigh to the delight of everyone. We would also like to thank the hundreds of people who lined the streets t
o watch the parade for without you the parade would have just been a lot of people walking down the centre of the road.
There is already interest in a Christmas Parade for 2017 which will build on last year’s successful event. We are all looking forward to seeing our community come together again to celebrate Christmas.
